4 REASONS TO VISIT THE QUARTERDECK
A mile of white sand and sweeping views of the ocean is only the beginning of the luxury that awaits you at the Quarterdeck. Located on the south shore of Nova Scotia, about 15 minutes from Liverpool, it’s no secret that the Quarterdeck is one of our absolute favourite places to stay in Nova Scotia. We rave about it at every opportunity!
There are a million reasons we sing the Quarterdeck’s praises as a top travel choice when you’re visiting the south shore of Nova Scotia, but here are our top 4 reasons to visit the Quarterdeck this year.
1. Location & Lofts
As I said, you can’t beat the beach. The Quarterdeck is located directly on the Summerville beach and it’s really breath-taking. Whether you’re staying in the lofts (like we did), overlooking the amazing view or cozied up in a villa with the waves lapping at your front porch, the location is as luxury as it gets.
We’ve stayed in three different lofts at the Quarterdeck over the last year and we love that they’ve got options to suit any guests stay whether you’ve got the kids in tow or are spoiling yourself with a romantic weekend away.
*STUDIO LOFT with private balcony overlooking the Summerville beach *
*Beachside Two Bedroom Villa with private beachfront deck *
*Deluxe one bedroom penthouse loft with full kitchen, kind sized bed and a soaker tub overlooking the beach*
*One bedroom loft*
2. Service
With “self check-ins” on the rise at many establishments we were pleasantly surprised to arrive onsite to find that the main office has full time staff, onsite, 24 hours a day should any guest need anything. They were happy to check us in, make recommendations of places we should visit, and tell us all about the available amenities on site (more on that later).
They also have boutique shop with artisan soaps and bath products, snacks and even local wine for purchase on site which was very much appreciated during our winter stay.
3. Food
The Quarterdeck Grill has a reputation that precedes it so we were excited to finally get to experience the culinary work of the Chef as well as the hand-crafted cocktails by their local mixologist, Chris. The grill is perched above the breakwater of the Summerville beach with sweeping views of the ocean and boasts and huge wrap around balcony. The floor to ceiling windows allow for an uninterrupted view of the beach and the clean, white finishes with cleverly places artifacts from the original grill give it a modern yet warm feel.
Hand crafted cocktails are something we’ve been developing a taste for over the last couple of years so anytime a restaurant has a cocktail program, we make a point to do some sampling. We loved the spin mixologist Chris Green, put on classic cocktails and would highly recommend stepping out of your comfort zone and trying one of his creations.
Like the cocktails, the food at the Quarterdeck had a great blend of traditional flavours with a unique twist and we were very impressed with the menu selections they chose for us. We enjoyed dinner as well as brunch and loved the use of fresh, local produce and attention to detail.
4. Amenities
The moment you arrive at the Quarterdeck, you enter an oasis. Often, in Canada, travelling in the winter can be tricky because many coastal towns essentially shut down making it a challenge to fill your time. The Quarterdeck offers so many onsite amenities that if you wanted to just stay put, you could.
Here’s a quick overview of what to do at the Quarterdeck without ever leaving the resort
- Walk the beach
- Visit the Rec Centre & Play a Game
- Relax in the Suana
- Workout at the gym
- Swim in the pool
- Soak in the Hottub
Final Thoughts & What You Should Know
As you well know by now, we love the Quarterdeck and have quickly put it at the top of our list in terms of resorts in Nova Scotia but we also know that our travel style isn’t necessarily yours, so here’s what you need to know.
Did we feel genuinely welcomed by the staff?
Yes, we did. The staff we interacted with were fabulous.
How’s the wifi?
We were nervous, because coastal communities often have wifi issues but in our third floor loft, we had perfect reception (and even broadcasted our live show from the room).
Cost?
The prices range from $139 – $459 depending on the room and season.
Would I recommend it to my best friend?
In a heartbeat, this is an easy recommendation for us
Will we return?
Absolutely. As soon as we can!
GOOD TO KNOW
The restaurant is seasonal and closed during the winter months so if you’re planning a winter vacation at the Quarterdeck (like we did), plan to head into Liverpool for meals or bring food to cook yourself!
We were guests of the Quarterdeck during our stays this year but as you well know by now, all opinions, too many photos and our recommendations are our own, always! To book your stay, visit www.quarterdeck.ca
Would love to Win contest we never get away me and hubby
We spent Christmas Day, 2017 at your resort. It was lovely even with a 2-hour power outage.
Hey Cathie, it’s not our resort – we just love it! But thanks! We’ve also experienced some power outages at various resorts and for us it just means a great excuse to light some candles and sip wine in the dark 🙂
This looks amazing!! ✔️????????
