I recently came across a bucket list I wrote back in 2012 and it was a trip! I actually had 100 different things on the list and I remember, at the time, writing down things I never thought would actually happen. But do you know what? Since we started this blog, we’ve checked off an unbelievable number of things off that list!
Some highlights from that epic list? Hot Air Ballooning, cave diving, repelling, white water rafting, climbing a mountain, winter camping, and so many more! We did a live show on this topic last week and if you’re the type of person who would rather listen than read, here’s the video.

OUR 2019 BUCKET LIST
1. Live 1 Month in Different Locations
Slow travel has been on my list for as long as I can remember. I love exploring and being “busy” but there’s always been something appealing to me about going somewhere and really slowing down. Going beyond the tourist attractions and really getting to know a place, the people, the culture – that’s the goal!
2. Travel by Train
This was on last year’s list and we didn’t get to it. Actually, we wanted to travel by plane, train, car & boat…we did it all except for train. So, this year, we’re on it. Even it just means taking a quick trip to Halifax (from our hometown an hour away), spending the night and then coming home. Train travel – it’s happening.
3. Drive the California Coast
Brent has been to Cali but I never have. We planned this trip last year but had to cancel because there was some damage at Big Sur and a large part of the highway was closed down. So, this year, we’re making it happen. Ideally, I’d love to take a month and really spend some quality time here but we’ll see what happens!
4. Complete 3 Courses / Read 12 Books
Brent is so inspiring! Something I love about him (it’s a long list) is that he takes continued education and personal growth VERY seriously. So much so, that he’s been working on his business degree over the last few years from home, in the evenings, after work. His goal this year is to complete 3 more courses. I also take a TON of online courses but I’m not working towards a degree, so I set my “education” goal of reading 12 new books this year. To hold myself accountable, I joined an actual (not virtual) book club!
5. Take a Cruise
Confession: I’ve always been “that person” who thought I would hate cruising. First, I do get motion sickness (which totally sucks) and second, I could never imagine having as good a time spending most of my time on a ship and being held to someone else’s schedule. That said, EVERYONE I know who’s done some cruising says it’s amazing. So, I’m willing to give it a try this year! I’ll keep you posted.
6. Go Deep Sea Fishing
Another new one for both of us and another thing that was never really on my radar but hey, I’m always up for trying something new! We’ll be spending 1 month or so in Florida this year (see bucket list item 1) and figure that’s a great time to tackle this one.
7. Go Skydiving (FINALLY)
This has been on my own list for as long as I’ve been writing lists. Last year we actually had it booked but the weather wouldn’t corporate and our dive was cancelled so naturally, it’s back on the list.
8. Travel to Scotland
Originally we said “Europe” again because our favourite trip ever was one we took to Greece a few years ago. But, then we narrowed it down and settled on Scotland as our Bucket List Europe destination for this year. Neither of us have been and we both have Scottish heritage that we’d love to explore further.
9. Go Winter Surfing
Brent has NEVER been on a surf board and, truthfully, he doesn’t love the water so he’d be hard to convince. I’ve only been on one once (in Hawaii) and thought I would hate it but actually loved it. Nova Scotia has (I’m told) some incredible surfing and like I always say, “go big or go home”! So, why not surfing here in Nova Scotia, in the winter?!?
10. Learn a Second Language
As I write this post, just two weeks into January, we’ve already started this one. We’ve both decided that learning a second language is important to us. And, we both agree that Spanish makes the most sense. We’ve got the Rosetta Stone program. We’ve downloaded the apps. We’re ready to rock and roll!
