Why Digby Pines Should be on Your Winter Getaway List
If you think of Digby Pines as just a summer destination, you’re missing out. Sure, summer brings sunshine and ocean breezes, but winter at The Pines? It’s a whole different kind of magic. Fewer crowds, crackling fires, and cozy accommodations make for the perfect off-season escape—whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway, a fun family trip, or just an excuse to indulge in a little R&R.
Here’s why Digby Pines in the winter should be on your must-visit list:
1. Budget-Friendly Winter Buster Packages
Winter means lower rates and some seriously good package deals. Whether you’re looking for a romantic retreat or a cozy escape, the Winter Buster packages make it easy to book a getaway without breaking the bank.
One of our favorites? The Fondue & Fireplace Cottage Getaway, where you get:
- A private cottage with a wood-burning fireplace (wood delivered daily!)
- Gruyère cheese fondue with wine and dessert, delivered right to your door
- A hot breakfast the next morning at Churchill’s Restaurant
- Pets are welcome—and they get their own special treats
If you’re craving cozy vibes, good food, and the ultimate excuse to stay in and enjoy the fire, this is it. We also loved the anniversary package (we just experienced that for our 8th) which included a bottle of bubbly, chocolate-covered strawberries, and a few extra goodies. Check out all of the Winter Busters here.
2. Digby’s Best-Kept Secret: The Off-Season Experience
If you’ve ever visited Digby Pines in the summer, you know it can be busy. But in the winter? It’s a whole different experience.
Imagine this: quiet woodland trails, a nearly private spa, and cozy common spaces like the solarium and the grand lounge with a giant fireplace that’s always crackling. You don’t have to fight for a good seat, and the whole place has that peaceful, laid-back vibe you don’t always get during peak travel season.
3. Winter Hiking & Beach Walks Without the Crowds
The woodland trails on-site take on a whole new look in winter, with frost-covered trees and crisp air making for stunning, peaceful hikes. If you’re feeling adventurous, bundle up and take a short drive to explore Digby Neck’s rugged coastline or Sandy Cove Beach—winter is the perfect time to take in the ocean without the summer crowds.
4. On-Site Dining = No Need to Leave
Let’s be real: one of the biggest perks of a winter getaway is NOT having to go outside if you don’t want to. With Churchill’s Restaurant on-site, you can go from a slow morning with coffee by the fire straight to a leisurely breakfast, without even thinking about leaving the property.
Some standout menu items?
- Eggs Benny (trust us on this one)
- The Trophy Club
- Smoked Salmon Bagel
- Pan Seared Digby Scallops
And if you’re staying over the weekend, Prime Rib Fridays and International Saturdays offer three-course dinner specials that are absolutely worth sticking around for.
5. A Spa Day Without the Waitlist
Last-minute spa appointments aren’t always available in the summer. But in the off-season, you can score a spot at The Spa at The Pines without booking weeks in advance.
This is the perfect way to warm up and unwind after a day of exploring, from massages and facials to body treatments. Pro tip: Call ahead to check winter hours.
6. TrackMan Golf Simulator = The Off-Season Golfer’s Dream
Golf season might be over, but at The Pines, you can still get your swing in on their TrackMan Golf Simulator. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just looking to have some fun, it’s a great way to sharpen your game—or at least convince yourself that you’re staying active before indulging in more fondue. If you’re part of a duo where one is a golfer and the other isn’t (like us), split up. I took this opporutnity to go for a wintery stroll around the course (at your own risk, of course) and it was magical.
7. March Break = A One-of-a-Kind Family Experience
One of the we love about Digby Pines is they’re always coming up with unique events and experiences—and this year’s March Break Puppet Creation Workshop is one for the books. Although we don’t have kids, I know a lot you do so this one’s for you!
Partnering with Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia, this two-day event includes:
- A Puppet Slumber Party where kids meet professional puppeteer Struan Robertson and see famous puppets in action
- A full-day hands-on puppet creation workshop (for kids 7+), where they’ll design, build, and bring their own puppets to life
- A final “show and tell” performance where they get to show off their work
It’s the kind of totally unique, hands-on experience that makes for a seriously cool March Break memory.
The Verdict? Digby Pines is a Winter Must-Do
Whether you’re looking for a romantic escape, a cozy retreat, or a fun family adventure, Digby Pines in the winter is absolutely worth the trip. Between the budget-friendly packages, cozy atmosphere, and unique seasonal experiences, it’s the kind of place that makes winter feel like a getaway instead of something to just survive.
